Hosting a Masquerade Wedding Reception? I am trying to get ideas on how to host a masquerade for our future wedding reception. Ive always wanted a halloween wedding...but...? ok...my boyfriend and i have been together 5 yrs and having been talking about getting married. we are not formally engaged, which is no biggie, but my mom brought up the idea yesterday for us to have a halloween wedding the weekend before halloween. My parents offered to fund the entire event, with a masquerade-costume ball reception. My boyfriend thinks that we're crazy for wanting to do this on such short notice, but my thought is well hell, why not!?!?!? Masquerade? I am going to a Masquerade ball this october, anytime period from 1500 to 1850's or so, and I am going as a Italian Renaissance Princess, my dress is dark blue with a white under dress or chamise, and I have a fan and everything but the only thing I am missing is a mask. And I don't know where to find any good ones because well, they all look cheap or scream costume. Does anyone know a good place to get pretty, even beautiful masks. Preferably I'd like it to be simple but elegent. No feathers or anything. Maybe glittery but not so much that it'll get all over my hands everytime I touch it. Got any suggestions? Thanks!

How much is too much to spend on your reception site? What are you spending and where do you live? I live in Philadelphia and I have fallen in love with a historical mansion that does weddings. http://www.conroycatering.com/docs/knowlton.html The pictures on the website do not even do it justice. It is amazing and beautiful. And I am getting married on Halloween 2009 so having it in a mansion will add to the ambiance of what I'm trying to do with the theme (fall pumpkins, leaves--classy masquerade ball---no costumes just masks) Plus, at the mansion I get awesome grounds for photos (something that a regular catering hall doesn't have) and something unique and different. The only problem is that this place is pricier than what I had originally planned on spending. This place will cost me $23,000 for a Saturday night in October. There are standard catering hall type places that could accomadate my guest list for $13,000. Is it worth spending an extra $10,000 on the place that I absolutley love? What are others in a metropolitan area spending on the reception? Since I have seen the mansion I've sort of become a "snob" about everything else that I see, nothing is as nice or as wonderful. Other mansions are about the same in price. $23,000 for a Philly wedding is above average for a reception, but it's not as expensive as if I wanted a downtown center city wedding--then we'd be talking over 30K. How to Break the Return of Goods Habit? A lady I work with (and friend of mine) has a bizarre habit and I'm sure its going to get her in trouble sooner or later. She buys things, uses them for a couple of days and then returns them. Its immoral if not illegal. The most recent one was a "hamster ball" - excercise thingy for hamsters - which she used as part of a masquerade costume and then returned a couple of days later. How can I make her understand this is wrong?

Where in the Los Angeles or Antelope Valley area can i rent a Marie Antoinette style dress? I'm looking for the big poofy skirt Rococo style dresses, not the smaller medieval times/renaissance type dresses. Pretty much exactly like something in the Marie Antoinette movie- the scene of the masquerade ball. I want to have a masquerade type halloween party but i have no clue where to rent those costumes! I want it to look very genuine, not like the cheap ones they sell at regular halloween stores. Thats why i'm looking to rent one, because i know how expensive the authentic ones are to buy. Does anyone know any Halloween costume balls happening on long island or Manhattan? I am looking for a place to go on or around halloween so far I only see two places that maybe a consideration. but I am looking for an actual halloween ball theme to it or a masquerade feel to it but it's getting real hard to see anything of real interest.
