How can i build a fake stage or a mock stage ?

I need to build a stage for a costume contest at the library that i volunteer at, i don't have anytime to build it except maybe a couple days before, what can i do to make a stage for the people in the contest? I want it too look really nice, and also I don't have a budget for it so it needs to be free basically !

1. Nothing is free, but you could do it on a bit of a buget. Easiest way I could think of would be to go to your local grocery store and ask to borrow a bunch of milk crates which you could use as a base ( get lots so the stage is safe and not bouncy). Next cover this with plywood (maybe beg at a home depot for some damged unsaleable pieces?). Paint the wood black and find some material to use as a skirt to hide the milk crates...
2. get some PHYSICAL help from some one WHO HAS SOME EXPERIENCE...you do not want to be responsible for anyone been hurt when the milk crates slip and collapse the entire stage..i applaud you for your volunteer work,,don't take unnecessary risks thou...
