Why do singers wear such wacky costumes on stage during concerts?
Public Comments
- They try to stand out. Or perhaps start a new trend.
- It's show business, baby. They wear them for the theatrical glitter and glamour, to look larger than life, to look spectacular and faaaaaahbulous. To be fair, not ALL singers wear costumes and such. The grunge musicians tended to wear clothes that look like they slept in them ("It's not about the clothes, it's the music, man!"). Pop icons and rock singers tend to be a little more outlandish, a little more outre. It's also why the clothes you see on the fashion runways look fantastic but unwearable. It's all just for theatrics. The trouble begins when performers start wearing these costumes off-stage. But I digress...
- To draw attention away from the fact that most of them CAN'T SING.
- In my opinion anything goes on stage. You are up there performing, and making a spectacle of yourself, so why not be a little wild and crazy--especially if you are comfortable with what you are wearing and it covers everything that is supposed to be. And it is much better to wear it on stage than on the street or out shopping. In the case of someone like Lady Ga Ga, if she weren't wearing such attention seeking clothes off stage, no one would look at ther twice.
